Facility Dogs

These are PROFESSIONAL DOGS who go to work with PROFESSIONAL HUMANS.

Facility Dogs

In recent years, more and more public places and places of business have been securing their own FACILITY DOG to help ease the tension and calm those in the environment.

Though FACILITY DOGS are similar to therapy dogs in the work that they do, they require much more vigorous training and stamina for their longer hours. While THERAPY DOGS are volunteers, FACILITY DOGS are, in a sense, employees.

Let’s look at the places where a FACILITY DOG may be well-suited.

1. Courtrooms have introduced the presence of facility dogs to provide support to witnesses, particularly those who are children or victims of trauma. These dogs offer a comforting presence during the often daunting and intimidating process of waiting and testifying in court. Their calming influence helps reduce anxiety and allows individuals to share their experiences more comfortably.

2. Airports are notorious for being stressful and anxiety-inducing environments. To alleviate the tension experienced by travelers, many airports have introduced therapy dog programs. These dogs, adorned in "Pet Me" vests, wander through terminals, offering weary passengers a moment of respite. The soothing presence of these dogs helps reduce stress and provides a sense of calm during what can be a hectic experience.

4. Medical Processional Office Dogs are becoming very popular. In psychiatrists' offices and mental health settings, at the dentist’s office or the podiatrist’s, dogs can partner with the medical professional to felicitate calmness and help create a sense of well-being.

Facility dogs can create a sense of well-being.

“I have patients with cognitive decline in their old age who don’t remember me from one appointment to the next, but they sure remember my partner, my dog.”
